Building privileged access for AI agents

Alter Labs builds the privileged access layer that lets AI agents act on real systems safely: vaulted credentials, per-call policy, human approval, and a complete audit trail.

Agents now read inboxes, file tickets, move money, and ship code. Every one of those actions runs on a borrowed credential. The infrastructure that decides what software may do, as opposed to what a person may do, mostly does not exist yet.

We started Alter to build it: a vault that holds the credentials, a policy engine that bounds every request, identity for every agent, and a record that cannot be altered after the fact.

Alter is built in New York City and backed by Y Combinator. We build for the platform and security teams answerable for what their agents do.
